Townsville Insight Meditation Sangha (TIMS) is a local group practicing insight (Vipassana) meditation.
Our meetings are straightforward: a period of guided or self-directed meditation, followed by a short dhamma talk on the practice, and time for questions.
Insight meditation, which traces its roots from the early Buddhist tradition, is the foundation of much of what is now taught as modern mindfulness. Indeed, a down-to-earth practice of mindfulness and insight helps to bring calm, clarity, and compassion into our daily lives.
Everyone is welcome, whether you are new to meditation or continuing an existing practice.
30–45-minute period of meditation guided by our volunteer facilitators.
Short dhamma talk covering the practice and/or related topics. These will also be given by visiting teachers from time to time.
There is time after the dhamma talk for any questions on the talk, or practice in general.

TIMS is a community meditation group dedicated to the practice of insight meditation. This kind of supportive community is called a sangha - a group of people who come together to support one another in meditation and mindful living. We provide a welcoming environment for individuals of all levels, from beginners to experienced practitioners.
Each meeting includes a period of quiet sitting followed by a short dhamma talk or reflection, with time for questions and shared insights.
No prior experience is necessary. Everyone is welcome, and we encourage both newcomers and ongoing practitioners to join us.
Our sessions operate on a donation basis (dana) which allows everyone to contribute according to their means. This helps cover venue costs and ensures accessibility for all.
Weekly sits are held at Riverside Gardens Community Centre from 6.30pm to 8pm every Monday evening.
We encourage all questions and insights relating to the practice of insight, both on and off the cushion. However, we do request that questions wait until the sitting period and dhamma talk have concluded so as not to interrupt the practice of others.
TIMS acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land: the Wulgurukaba of Gurambilbarra and Yunbenun, and the Bindal of Thul Garrie Waja. It is our great privilege and honour to live and work on this beautiful country. We pay our respects to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures; and their Elders past, present and emerging.
